We were made to love and support one another, and thankfully, you don’t have to be in-person to lend a helping hand. Charitable organizations, such as your local pro-life charity, can accept (tax-deductible) donations to help make a difference in the pro-life movement.
If you’re passionate about the pro-life movement, one of the best ways to show support is by giving financially, and we’re here to help you with these three tips for choosing a tax-deductible pro-life charity to give to this year!
1. Choose a Local Pro-Life Organization
One of the main driving forces behind the movement of helping women choose life is the local pregnancy center. By providing free healthcare, physical resources, options counseling, and education to women experiencing unplanned pregnancies, local pregnancy centers are front of the line to support women as they choose life for their babies.
According to the Charlotte Lozier Institute, in 2017 there were 2,752 local pregnancy clinics, which in total provided almost 2,000,000 individuals with free services in the year. These valuable, life-saving community resources are funded by donors, most of which live locally.
There’s a lot of talk around Christmas about “shopping local,” and the same can be said about charitable donations! When you give to a local pro-life organization, you have a unique opportunity of building a lasting relationship with the nonprofit, having a better understanding of who exactly your money is serving, and getting to see that your gift is making a difference right in your neighborhood.
2. Verify tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status
If you are planning on claiming donations on your tax return, it’s important to know what gifts qualify as tax-deductible and which don’t. Many people assume that all nonprofits are qualifying charitable organizations, however, in order for your gift to be tax-deductible, you must pick a nonprofit with a 501(c)(3) status. To find out an organization’s status, visit their website or reach out to them by phone or email.
Tax-Deductible Donations
You will only be able to deduct your donations from your tax liability if the donations were made to a true tax-exempt entity.
3. Choose a Pro-Life Organization with Tact
Choosing how to donate your money is a lot like choosing how to invest. If you’re looking to invest in a local business, you’ll likely choose a company that you feel is the most likely to succeed and give you a good return on your investment.
In truth, when you donate to a pro-life nonprofit, you are investing in their mission. As you decide where to donate, it’s important to find an organization with a clear mission and a tactful approach to their marketing and operation efforts — this way, your dollars will have the largest impact in saving lives and helping women.
